In order to fully embrace the Web 2.0 social media generation, Saints Divers is now on Twitter, follow us on twitter.com/saintsdivers  or #saintsdivers.

At this stage its more to get the presence set up and reserve a consistent name across social media platforms, but any suggestions on what we might use it for are welcome (I'm not a big twitterer and don't really get it)

New Club Facebook Page

posted 16 Jun 2011 15:40 by Saints Divers

The feature we previously used to communicate via facebook has been deprecated, we should now be using 'Pages' which I have now set up

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Saints-Divers/210581495645353

Its better than groups as people can just join by clicking 'Like' on the page rather than be invited.

If we get 25 Likes I can get a snazzy short url for the club, so come on guys

Saints Divers Educate Local Diving Community

posted 16 Jun 2011 14:39 by Saints Divers   [ updated 16 Jun 2011 15:47 ]

Scuba Diving is a very safe sport with excellent training offered by all diving agencies. However there are instances of decompression illness and other injuries suffered by divers. Saints Divers held an evening of talks Monday 13 June designed to educate divers about how to avoid decompression illness and dealing with human factors causing accidents.

Dr Trevor Oxley from Rugby hyperbaric chamber gave an in-depth talk on the causes of decompression illness, how to avoid it and when it does occur how it should be treated.

The second speaker, Gareth Lock, is a technical diver and underwater deep wreck photographer. He spent ten years working at MOD Boscombe Down ensuring that the UK’s military human factors needs were met. He has translated this approach to recreational and technical diving and has set up a forum where divers can report incidents so that these can be learnt from.

Fifty five people attended the free event which was held at Wootton Working Mens club. It was a great success and makes up part of the ongoing training that Saints Divers offers.

Saints Divers is a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club, the governing body of scuba diving in the UK with over 38,000 members. They are always looking for new members so if you are interested in taking up diving please contact Julie Odell on 07944 258 376. Alternatively come to our stand at the Dragon Boat Race Sunday 17 July, Midsommer Meadow.
